Erika Kao, PhD | About

 

Dr. Erika Kao, a skilled psychologist with expertise serving North County San Diego, first found a love of psychology as an undergraduate at University of Michigan. She was awarded the Multicultural Initiative Scholarship for her senior year thesis, published in the Journal of Social Psychology. She worked
with the late Christopher Peterson PhD. He and Martin Seligman, PhD of the University of
Pennsylvania are considered the among the founders of Positive Psychology.

After graduating Cum Laude, Dr. Kao was admitted to the graduate program at The Ohio State
University
and awarded the prestigious Dean’s Fellowship scholarship. Her work in Asian American
cross-cultural psychology is published in the Journal of Social Psychology and the Journal of Career
Assessment.

Dr. Kao also earned her Doctorate in Counseling Psychology from The Ohio State University. She
completed an internship in health psychology and neuropsychology at the Carl T. Hayden Veterans
Administration Medical Center, and postdoctoral training in forensic neuropsychology and behavioral
health psychology at Maricopa Integrated Health Behavioral Health Centers.

Dr. Kao has been a licensed psychologist since 2001, first in Phoenix, AZ and since 2005 in San Diego, CA.
In addition to having a growing psychotherapy practice, she is experienced in the med-legal arena and has been a California Qualified Medical Evaluator since 2006.
